Monday Eve

Dear Mother and Dad,
         The only news of the day is that I've been promoted to Captain. I continue my duties as regimental liaison officer.
         Both New Year's day and New Year's Eve passed quietly enough. They have a small bar here and I had a few drinks. Today's dinner menu included turkey. At our regiment they served it at noon whereas at the mess of the headquarters where I'm staying they served it at night. I ate dinner at our regiment and supper here - so I had two turkey dinners.
         I got a nice card from Joan - and a card and swell comb and case from Jack. I mean to write Jack - and thank him - it was certainly useful.
         The weather here has been fine, and I'm not doing a great deal - putting on weight all the time. I hope you have a very happy New Year.
