Italy
Dear Mother and Dad,
So far the country is very interesting. The trouble is that demands of military secrecy don't enable me to say much.
The country is full of people trying to get something for nothing from Americans. The people as a whole are in a wretched state - but I can't feel sorry for them when I wonder how much American blood is on their hands.
As I said though, they regard Americans as soft touches. The street beggars never bother with well dressed Italians there are. They only solicit soldiers.
I've seen a great many magnificent churches - most of them at least slightly scarred - some of them nearly demolished. Generally the exteriors are disappointing - but sometimes the exteriors are breath taking.
….
As for me- I'm getting along alright.
P.S. note change of address
