Dear Mother and Dad,
         I got a chance to get to Rome - to the rest camp, and grabbed it. This particular camp is located in one of the cities best hotels. I have a well appointed room with bath. Meals are served in a marble and gold dinning room, with an orchestra on hand for dinner and supper. The same orchestra plays for cocktails and for dancing in the evening.
         I'm getting a chance to see the city in some detail. I went to high mass at St. Peter's today. I happened to think that when I started out for the Army that Friday I had no idea the travel would lead through St. Peters. Later I went back in the Sacristy, which is a huge place. I nearly bumped into a Cardinal there. The Sacristy there is built to take care of priests on a mass production basis.
